Hi Everyone,
Please find attached our April Newsletter.

After we’ve done some “work”…… we’ll finish with a BBQ lunch. BYO something to BBQ and something to share.
Happy gardening.

On behalf of all Community Garden Members, Wins thanked Eathorne and Angela for their work on the Committee and in the garden. Eathorne was our first Garden Co-ordinator, and both Eathorne and Angela were foundation members. We shall miss their expertise and garden wisdom but know that we can rely on their continued enthusiasm and assistance at the garden.
Shelter
We are very grateful to John Siversen who is close to finishing the plans. The shelter will include a sink in a bench, a lockable shutter, cupboards and a whiteboard.
Glasshouse
Min has found four suitable windows and we are still looking for wooden framed windows and doors to use so please let the committee know if you can source any for the glasshouse. Thanks to Tabitha Lowdon for donating a potting bench.
Working Bee ‘One Year On’
We shall celebrate our first birthday on Saturday, 4th May with a working bee, BBQ lunch. Please arrive at 10.00am for Morning Tea and a review of the year to start the day. Please bring stuff for compost making.
Supplies for sale
Sheep poo is $6 per bag. Hay is $9 per bale. Mushroom compost is $5 a bag. These are not for purchase to take off the site. Put your money in the tin in the shed please.
New Members – Over the past few months we have welcomed these new gardening friends: John and Nancy Siversen, Sharon and Naia Coyle, Emma French,
Mandy Mitchell Taverner and Graeme Wilson, Chris Morrissey, Maria Straub and
Linda Mc Roberts. We are very pleased to have you join our lovely garden.
Planting plans
Min has prepared planting plans for the community beds, including sweet peas (thanks for the frame Geoff Giles) and broad beans. Green manure mix will also be used. Have a look at the book in the shed which will give a complete planting guide, along with other information for each season. Jim Cox has constructed a strong passion fruit frame – thanks! Can you help with Santolina and Hidcote lavender cuttings?
NZ Spinach – grows around the base of the tree directly in front of the tool shed – pick any time for use in salads and stir fries, soups etc. very healthy!
Worm Wee – Help yourself to worm wee anytime. If there is not enough in the basin, pour a watering can of water in the bath, then use one saucepan of wee, diluted in a watering can of water to feed your plants.
Lost Property – there is a tub full of belonging in the shed – check it out
Ideas book
Have a look at this book in the shed and write any suggestions in it. For example, it was suggested that we don’t plant any more sunflowers in the garden as they attract cockatoos.
